Notes to My Younger Self: Introduction

Updated on April 24, 2017

Well, Chickadee;

You’re finally ready. You reached that unhappy point where you took a look around and didn’t like what you saw. In fact, you disliked it so much, that you’re reached out for help in changing your reality. For that (and a hundred reasons more), I love and admire you.

I’ve ridden with the Ferryman a few times to get where I am, but it was worth every copper penny I placed in his hand. Now, I want you to have the benefit of my experience without having to travel the darkness.

Coming 'Round the Mountain

Yes, I know. You’ve always said that the best way to learn is to do it yourself and fall on your face if you have to. You’ve never gone around a proverbial mountain to get to the other side and I respect you for that. However, I’d like you to think about that for a moment. How many times have you been crushed by an avalanche or lost from snow blindness during your climb? And, on those few times you actually made it to the other side of the mountain, were you in any condition to enjoy what lay on the other side? Or, were you too exhausted and defeated by the cost of the climb?

I know the answer. I cried the bitter tears and prayed the desperate words. Victory was only ever a pit stop between mountains. The rewards were scarce enough to kill any sense of adventure or wonder that made life worth living.

Please; let these words be my first gift you:

Sometimes the best way to get to the other side of the mountain is on a trail blazed by someone else.

It is dangerous and arrogant to climb a mountain alone. You need the right equipment. You need a guide who knows the mountain’s moods. You need to know what’s on the other side and if it’s worth the time and effort.

Learning from other people’s mistakes instead of your own is still a valuable lesson learned. Especially in your hands. One of your greatest skills is the ability to take information, process out what doesn’t ring “true” for you and incorporate what you can use into your life. That is true power. Use it as you read these pages.

Journey Safe

When my words sting you, remember they're written with love and compassion for where you are now. They're meant to be your Sherpa through the mountains. Follow your faithful guide and you will taste sweet victory and be filled with such happiness. Before you know it, you’ll be able to fly over the mountains with ease.

I don’t promise it will be easy to get from where you are today to where I stand, waiting with open arms. I do promise it will be worth every step and the journey will be more enjoyable with these notes as your guide than if you were to continue running at mountains empty-handed.

Be well, little one and do not give up.

Much Love,

Your Older Self
